The effect is that a card, selected by a spectator, is placed face down on the table without its face being shown, then the performer endeavours to cut to the three other cards which match. He shows each card as it is found—three Eights—and places them face down on the table. When the spectator's card is turned it is found to be a King, so obviously a mistake has been made. If you like this effect I recommend you to check Rene Lavand' work on this one. He managed to combine both 'cutting the aces' and 'matching the cards' with a vernonesque style pattern about gambling and... just with one hand. His effect is knows as 'Historia de un Jugador' and can be found at his classic book Lentidigitacion vol II.

Furniture thanks for the clip of Michael Vincent as I'm a big fan of his and also a fan of Matching the Cards.
I believe this version is different than the Giobbi version you mention in Genii. Other resources for Matching can be found in Vernon's book on Nate Leipzig, plus Ganson has one of his Lesson's series just on Match the Cards (which also another version that can be performed with a borrowed deck).
Interestingly 'Matching' can be traced back almost 100 years according to the Ganson book.

I am trying to get hold of the Giobbi version in Genii, as I read it few year ago and complete the post.
Michael Vincent version is great, and I believe that is very interesting how we routines this trick with the following one on the video. I prefer to use Rene Lavands(check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4j10UIB8yQ) as this trick is a perfect companion for cutting the aces.
